Understand what happens to your PDF.
A short guide to processing modes, common PDF terms, and the quickest ways to solve a problem.
01
Where files are processed
Every tool shows its processing mode before you begin, so you know whether the document stays on your device or needs the server.
- Local · on your device
- Your browser does all the work. The PDF is not sent to PapelPDF, and the tool can work with a limited connection.
- Server · secure VPS
- Specialized conversions upload the file temporarily. It is deleted after download or within 30 minutes at most.
02
Terms you will see in the tools
- OCR
- Recognizes text in scanned pages so you can search, copy, or select it.
- PDF/A
- A version of PDF designed to preserve documents for many years.
- Bates numbering
- Sequential identifiers used to organize and locate legal or administrative documents.
- Linearize
- Reorganizes a PDF so its first pages can appear before the download is complete.
- Flatten
- Merges forms or annotations into the page to prevent later changes.
- Redact
- Permanently removes sensitive information instead of only covering it visually.
03
If a tool does not finish
Most problems can be solved with these quick checks:
- 01Check that the file opens correctly and is not password-protected.
- 02Try again with fewer files or pages if the document is very large.
- 03Use “Report this problem” and say what you were trying to do; your document is never attached.
04
Your document is not part of the report
PapelPDF does not include the file, its name, or its content in metrics or feedback. We only use minimal technical data to understand what failed.
You can send feedback anonymously; email is always optional.
